Nicholette Hope first came into my field of vision on the now defunct social media app, Vine. The posts I first became familiar with were duets between her, her twin sister Sybil and their mother, playing and singing guitar, harmonizing in a way that made the heart swell. There was talent there, to be sure…so I dug further and found Nicholette’s SoundCloud account.

Here, I found a blend of everything from phone recorded acoustic demos to full-on electronic productions with a subtle pop sensibility and those ethereal vocals filling in the gaps. This was years before Not Yet Remembered Records was even a thought in the heads of Will or I.

Once the label project appeared to be coming to fruition and we had several recruits for releases and material to sift through, Will and I *both* agreed it should be Nicholette’s music to act as the label debut. It’s representative of what we want to do: release good music that might not fit in a typical situation and give it an audience.

So we reached out to her about taking the maiden voyage for NYR. She did not hesitate and proceeded to provide a plethora of Mac produced tunes and ideas that we culled into the Giver EP. In the meantime, at no point has Nicholette been idle in her creations. We were impressed with the music, the creativity and the constant drive to create, be it musically or via visual art, in which she is also versed. She is prolific, but this does not diminish the quality of the output.

We sincerely hope you enjoy this release. With any luck and based on the amount of material she continues to produce on a weekly basis, we hope to continue this relationship into the future, bringing you her latest intimate creations.

When it came to finding the right artist to launch Not Yet Remembered, I think Ben & I agreed early on that Orbiscorpus would be the natural choice. One attribute that, for me, adds a lot to a piece of music is world building. For the duration of the work you leave the confines of Earth completely and you are planted in the environment that the artist creates. Giver really does this for me. Nicholette’s music lives in its own completely separate plane, it follows its own rules. It is rare to hear music from an artist that has such a well-defined vision of itself. It’s an absorbing work and a place where I feel a lot of listeners are going to want to go regularly.
